Students from Media Studies visited the Subang Jaya City Council

Thirty students from the Media Studies at Oneworld Hanxin College recently visited the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) in Selangor to gain a deeper understanding of the local government's development and practices in digital transformation, smart city construction, and public governance.

During the exchange, officials from the Information Technology Department explained the council's digital transformation process in recent years, including its digital strategy blueprint, smart city development direction, and key plans for the coming years. The official stated that in terms of data-driven decision-making, the council collects a large amount of grassroots data annually, covering environmental sanitation monitoring, traffic flow analysis, natural disaster early warning systems, frequency of public facility damage, and resident complaint records.

In addition, council officials led the students on a tour of the command center and call center, allowing them to observe firsthand how the council integrates information from various departments through digital systems and handles citizen complaints, emergencies, and public service needs in real time.

This visit not only gave students the opportunity to step outside the classroom and experience the daily operations of local government firsthand, but also further deepened their understanding of the close connection between media communication, public information management, and digital technology. Through face-to-face exchanges with city council officials, students not only deepened their understanding of the local administrative system but also gained a more profound understanding of topics such as smart city development, public policy making, and citizen participation.
