Oneworld Hanxin College Students Explore Digital Society Movements and Governance at the Parliament

Recently, Oneworld Hanxin College led 28 students from the Media Studies on a visit to the Parliament of Malaysia. This trip, in addition to allowing students to tour the Parliament building and learn about the organizational structure, operational mechanisms, and historical evolution of the legislative body, also served as an outdoor learning activity for the "Digital Activism and Social Movement" course, helping students compare classroom learning with real-world scenarios.

During the visit, the college arranged a special exchange between the students and Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching, focusing on "Digital Government Communication and Citizen Participation". The exchange covered how the government uses online platforms for policy communication in the digital age, the logic and effectiveness of public information dissemination, and how citizens participate in public affairs, express opinions, and monitor policies in the social media and digital environment. The Deputy Minister shared her personal experience, outlining the challenges and coping strategies the government faces in the rapidly changing online ecosystem, allowing students to gain a clearer understanding of the crucial role of digital communication in policy understanding, public trust, and social participation.

During the Q&A session, students actively participated, engaging in in-depth discussions with Deputy Minister Teo and her team's assistants on topics such as Malaysia's political system, online public opinion environment, digital policy formulation, and how young people can rationally participate in public issues in cyberspace. Through face-to-face exchanges, students not only deepened their understanding of parliamentary operations and national governance but also gained a more concrete and comprehensive understanding of the possibilities and responsibilities of civic participation in the digital age, achieving a learning outcome that puts their knowledge into practice.
